The Christmas countdown seems to have started weeks ago with shops bringing in decorations and tempting food gift ideas. As we, in South Africa, are experiencing every season for a couple of days in a week, it is difficult to work up the energy to think about Christmas. This week we have had 2 days in the 30's (celsius, that is!) and we are anticipating snow on the Drakensberg for the next few days with rain and cold! Our gardens don't know whether they are coming or going but our resident Robins are happily sitting on a nest tucked into a big fern by our front door with 2 babies. It is the perfect home for them as they have plenty of interesting food stocks close at hand, a bird bath and peace as their previous nest was in a hanging fern by the back verandah gate and it was hit by the gate every time someone passed by!
Also undaunted and very focused is the enthusiasm of my customers who knit and crochet all year round! Some adapt their projects according to the weather (small in summer and large in winter) and others remain committed to large projects no matter what the weather does!
Don't forget that you can obtain Knitted Knockers from Dana through her website www.colourspun.com all year round and I encourage you to buy a knocker kit and knit it up with lots of love for a special courageous friend who needs this in her life. If you don't have a friend or family member in need - remember that there are many women who don't have someone knitting for them so please consider knitting and donating a pair (or more if you would like to). There is quite a wide range of skin tone cottons to choose from on Dana's website.
New stock is simmering in the pots as I write and will cover all yarn bases so keeping watching for the update of the website.
Don't forget that there is still time to knit and crochet gifts before its time for giving on Christmas Day - think small projects created with love and happy wishes for the season!!
I have pinned lots of new patterns and ideas on my Pinterest and Facebook pages or you may like to log into Ravelry and find many free or very reasonably priced designs.
I encourage you to support our local knitting and crochet designers, fabulous sewing experts as well as the many talented "handmakers" who produce beautiful garments and accessories when you are shopping for that special gift.
Love travelling with you, my customers and friends, on your yarn journey.
